From: Martin Dace [mailto:martin@dace.co.uk]
Sent: 23 August 2010 12:06
To: Lynnette Beanland
Subject: Book by past Henley head – your help please!

Dear Ms Beanland,

A book of poems by past head teacher of Henley College, David Henschel, is to be published shortly. I am organising book launch event which will take place during the Henley Literary Festival, and I think this is something many alumni of the College will be interested in.

In his public role David Henschel was sometimes a controversial figure, not always right but always committed to the College and its students, and to saying and doing what he felt was right rather than what might have been more popular. I did not know until after his death a few years ago that he had a hidden private side, revealed in his largely unpublished poetry.

In my opinion these poems are of high literary quality and should not be lost. David’s widow Norah Henschel, also a former teacher at The Henley College, gave me permission to edit the poems into the collection that is now to be published in book form. (Incidentally I am also myself a former pupil of the College.)

In conjunction with Linda Gray, organiser of the Henley Literary Festial [sic], I am arranging a book launch event. This will involve a short introduction to David Henschel and his time in Henley and readings of some of the finest poems. I plan to have drinks and canapés available. If any past students of the College would like to be involved, perhaps with their personal memories of David, their participation would be very welcome.

I write to ask for your assistance in contacting alumni to let them know about this event and about the book. If you have access to an emailing list would you be willing to forward this email to members of that list? They could then be kept up-to-date with details of the event by signing up to the blog at http://narrowgatepress.blogspot.com/ or by contacting me direct at info@narrow-gate.co.uk.

Please click the link to the blog to get a flavour of the book.

Best regards,

Martin
Earlier today I discovered that the pub review form at http://rg9.co.uk, which can be found HERE, had stopped working. I have no idea when this happened, and I would guess the forms stopped working about 6 months ago when we upgraded a server.

Therefore, if you have submitted a review of a Henley pub and it hasn’t appeared it is not because we don’t want to post it, it is because we never received it… Please submit it again!
